Tunnel chase
T2 omitted scene Scene description The helicopter chase was originally a longer sequence in which both the van and the helicopter drive/fly through a tunnel. A lot of carcrashes because the helicopter flies through the tunnel. Reason cut Van Ling (Creative Supervisor), in T2, the Book of the Film, An Illustrated Screenplay: In the 7/18/90 draft, the helicopter chases the SWAT van into a tunnel, where all of the subsequent crash and vehicle changeovers was to occur. Tunnel locations were scouted and effects houses put in bids to do the sequences in miniature; however, the financial, logistical, and safety considerations of this sequence were enormous, and even to do much of the sequence in miniature would have required a large-scale helicopter model --and thus a very large tunnel miniature-- to make it look realistic as the rotors smash the light fixtures and the skids scrape the pavement. The tunnel idea proved unfeasible to shoot and the location was moved to an open stretch of freeway in Long Beach; the one element that was retained was the action of the helicopter flying at high speed under an overpass.
